LAWN & SOD INSTALLATION

TURF REPLACEMENT | SOD INSTALLATION | NEW LAWN INSTALLATION | LAWN SEEDING

Hardy, Drought-Tolerant Lawns that Beat the Heat

In our northern Colorado climate, keeping your lawn green is no easy task. That’s why we specialize in utilizing grasses that can survive in low water (xeric) and prairie conditions. Our sod installation options range from general sod blends to drought-resistant, xeric species, such as Dog Tuff (™). If you’re building a new home, we’d be happy to finish your yard with a sod suitable to our climate.

The grass options we offer include (but are not limited to) Kentucky Bluegrass blend, Fine Fescue, Dog Tuff (™), Perennial Rye seed blend, Buffalo Grass, Blue Grama, and native seed. Dog Tuff (™) is an excellent option for full sun, and heavy use (foot traffic and pet wear).

Sod and LAWN Irrigation Recommendations

For newly installed xeric sod (includes mix of Fine Fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass or Dog Tuff (™)), water 2-3 times daily as the roots are becoming established. The sod needs to be saturated the first few weeks so it doesn’t dry out, invite disease, die, or not actually take root. It is important to keep the subsoil hydrated so the roots extend to this layer. After the rooting phase, homeowners can cut back too watering every other day, or every day for a lot less time. Cutting back the watering in this phase encourages the root system to reach deeper.

An irrigation system can be set to water automatically with an appropriately adjusted timer. After 2 weeks, the homeowner can check to see if it’s rooted by gently attempting to lift the sod. If it’s rooted well, you won’t be able to pull it away from the subsoil. At this point, we can adjust the irrigation clock to accommodate the watering needs of the next phase or teach the homeowner how to do it.

In drought conditions, additional watering adjustments may be necessary. We recommend scheduling irrigation at night to reduce evaporation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • WHERE DO YOU GET SOD?

We source sod from Greenlawn Sod Company. They offer high-quality products and knowledgeable customer service. We try to avoid sods from big box stores because they don’t do as well in our conditions. We prefer local sod farms or commercial sod.

  • WHAT KIND OF SOD DO YOU INSTALL?

We install drought tolerant xeric sods and general sod blends that aren’t as specialized for our northern Colorado climate, but work well with irrigation.

  • DO I HAVE TO WATER?

All new sod installations require irrigation for the first few weeks until the sod takes root in the subsoil. See the Sod Irrigation Recommendations above for typical watering requirements for establishing sod.

  • CAN YOU FIX THE DEAD/DYING AREAS IN MY LAWN?

Unfortunately, we don’t offer fertilization or corrective services for lawns; we only offer installation of new turf through sod or seeding.
